Black R103 — 10" Reference Three-Way In-Ceiling Speaker (Single)

Model BK-R103

A true three-way ceiling speaker built for rooms where the ceiling speakers have to carry the system. The 10" carbon fiber woofer, 2" aluminum dome midrange and 1" pivoting titanium dome tweeter each cover their own band, so the R103 keeps dialogue clear and effects placed while still producing real low end. Treble and bass contour switches let you match it to the room after installation. Sold as a single speaker.

TRUE THREE-WAY DESIGN: A dedicated 10" woofer, 2" aluminum dome midrange and 1" titanium dome tweeter, divided by a built-in three-way crossover — not a two-way with a larger woofer.

TEN INCHES OF BASS: The carbon fiber cone with thermoplastic rubber surround reaches 52 Hz at 0 dB and 24 Hz at –10 dB (half space), so music and movies have weight before a subwoofer is added.

PIVOTING TITANIUM TWEETER: Aim the high frequencies toward the listening area when the speaker cannot be mounted directly overhead.

DUAL CONTOUR SWITCHES: Independent three-position treble and bass switches, –3 dB / flat / +3 dB each, reachable on the front baffle with the grille off.

LCR, ATMOS OR WHOLE-HOME: Designed as a reference three-way LCR — equally at home as a ceiling-mounted left, center or right channel, a behind-screen channel, or an overhead height channel.

TRIMLESS PAINTABLE GRILLE: Sits nearly flush with the ceiling and takes paint before installation, so it disappears into a finished room or a black theater ceiling.

QUICK-TURN MOUNTING: No rough-in bracket or back box required. Tighten from the front of the baffle; the clamps draw up behind the drywall.

In-ceiling speakers are usually asked to disappear. The R103 is built for the rooms where they also have to perform. It is a full three-way design — a 10" carbon fiber woofer with a thermoplastic rubber surround, a 2" aluminum dome midrange and a 1" pivoting titanium dome tweeter — with a built-in crossover dividing the signal between them. Dialogue and detail come from drivers built for those frequencies rather than from one woofer trying to cover everything.

That matters most in a dedicated theater, where ceiling speakers have to blend with the main system and keep up when a soundtrack gets busy. Rated at 125 watts RMS and 200 watts peak with 91 dB sensitivity into 8 ohms, the R103 plays loudly enough to stay level with floorstanding or in-wall mains. Its response runs 52 Hz – 20 kHz at 0 dB and extends to 24 Hz at –10 dB, half space — enough low end that music does not immediately ask for a subwoofer, and a clean handoff at 80 Hz when one is there.

Because it was designed as a reference three-way LCR, the R103 works across the room rather than in one role: ceiling-mounted left, center and right channels, behind-screen placement, overhead height channels for Atmos, or as the main speakers in a whole-home system. The pivoting tweeter steers the top end toward the seats when joists and ductwork dictate where the speaker can go, and the two three-position contour switches let you correct a bright or boomy room after the speaker is already in the ceiling, without touching the receiver.

Installation is a quick-turn clamp system — no rough-in bracket, no back box. A cutout template is included, the trimless grille sits nearly flush with the ceiling, and it can be painted before installation to match a colored or black ceiling. The R103 is covered by OSD Audio’s limited lifetime warranty and is sold as a single speaker.
