Overview
More headroom = Freedom
The XPA-DR3 Differential Reference Three-Channel Power Amplifier runs your front LCR in a surround sound system with calm authority, using a fully balanced differential design for lower noise and tighter bass, delivering 450 W into 8 ohms and 600 W into 4 ohms per channel, all three driven, under 0.1% THD. Connect via XLR inputs or RCA with a 5 to 12 V trigger for one button power, and note the fully floating outputs, do not tie either speaker terminal to ground. Backed by a 5 year warranty.
Inside, a Class A/B output with Soft-Switch Class H and a high-current regulated SMPS keeps transients clean while running cool. It is a home theater amplifier with studio-grade finesse.
Common uses
• Powering front LCR channels in a high-performance surround system
• Upgrading an AVR pre-out setup for cleaner dynamics and control
• Building a dedicated music and movie rig with balanced XLR connectivity

Differential Reference™ Performance And Sound Quality
A fully differential, low-distortion power stage delivers big dynamics with smooth precision, so detail pops and imaging locks in.

Sound Quality First
Tuned to sound great in real rooms with any music. Wideband, low-noise Class A/B stays smooth and strain-free, and it is stable with real-world speakers.

Modern Efficient Circuit Design
Soft-Switch Class H™ boosts efficiency without blunting impact. Our regulated SMPS hits like a good linear supply, with lower weight and higher reliability.

Quality Construction
A heavy steel 4RU chassis with a milled aluminum faceplate feels solid and looks clean. Gold-plated RCA inputs keep connections secure. Modular architecture for consistency and service; DR3 ships with all three modules installed, and any module work is handled by Emotiva or an authorized rep. Designed, assembled, and tested in Franklin, Tennessee.

Flexible Signal Connections and Power Options
Gold-plated five-way binding posts accept bare wire, lugs, or banana plugs. Choose balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA per channel via metal toggles. 12 V trigger in and out syncs power. Universal 100 to 250 V, 50/60 Hz with a standard IEC inlet.

Protection
Audiophile-grade protection stays transparent while guarding against common faults. A rear resettable breaker handles AC issues. Backed by a 5-year warranty.

CIRCUIT TOPOLOGY
- CIRCUIT TOPOLOGY
- A fully modular, fully differential, fully balanced audio power amplifier with a high-efficiency switch mode power supply (SMPS), independent, fully discrete, dual differential, high current, short signal path Class A/B amplifier modules, Optimized Class H™ power supply topology, and microprocessor-controlled fault protection.
- NOTE
- This is a fully balanced amplifier with a floating, differential output stage. The output terminals must NEVER be tied together or ground referenced. Doing so will cause immediate damage that is NOT covered under warranty. If you have any questions about speaker compatibility, please contact Emotiva for technical support.
AUDIO SPECIFICATIONS
- AUDIO SPECIFICATIONS
- The XPA-DR3 features three Differential Reference™ Amplifier Modules. Audio Specifications (Three Differential Reference Amplifier Modules):
- Power Output (all three channels driven)
- 450 watts RMS, per channel, into 8 Ohms, at <0.1% THD. 600 watts RMS, per channel, into 4 Ohms, at <0.1% THD.
- Power Bandwidth (at rated power; 4 Ohm - 8 Ohm load)
- 20 Hz to 20 kHz (+ / – 0.1 dB).
- Broad Band Frequency Response
- 20 Hz to 50 kHz +0/-2 dB.
- THD + noise
- < 0.015%; at 100 watts RMS; 1 kHz; 8 Ohms.
- Signal to Noise Ratio (8 Ohm load)
- > 120 dB; ref FTC rated power; unbalanced input (A-weighted). > 96 dB; ref 1 watt; unbalanced input (A-weighted).
- Minimum Recommended Load Impedance (per channel)
- 4 Ohms (which equals one 4 Ohm load or two paralleled 8 Ohm loads).
- Damping Factor (8 Ohm load)
- > 500.
- Input Sensitivity (for rated power; 8 Ohm load)
- 2.0 V.
- Gain
- 29 dB.
- Maximum Power Consumption
- 2,300 watts.
- Note
- The values shown refer to the amount of power the amplifier would consume while playing test tones continuously, on all channels, at full power, into a load bank. Therefore they are not at all characteristic of what you would expect when playing music or the sound track from a movie. Normal audio signals are dynamic, so the amount of power they require from second to second varies widely, and the average is far lower than this. With normal content, even playing very loudly, one of our amplifiers will consume far less power than indicated in the chart, so these values should not be considered to be a circuit requirement for normal operation.
- Input Impedance
- 33 kOhms (balanced). 23.5 kOhms (unbalanced).
